176 LUSH, Faith Over Reason, Southampton University, Saturday 3 November 1990

A swift 1 1/2 hour drive down to Southampton Uni, in time to catch Faith Over Reason's support set. They were a cross between the Sundays and Cowboy Junkies, albeit without the quality of material. Pleasant enough but unspectacular.

Lush vocalist Miki Berenyi was obviously a rock fan once, judging by her manning the merchandise stand and chatting and signing autographs with avid punters prior to the set. She signed a pic I took of her at the recent Reading gig with "thunderthighs is back!". Hmm, I didn't think they were that bad... anyway, based on the banter during the set, she's obviously still a fan - of Tottenham, prodigious amounts of profanity - oh, and playing haunting, atmospheric guitar wall of noise songs which captivate and excite in equal doses. A good, if short at 50 minutes, set which shows that Lush are still moving upwards and onwards. Good on 'em!
