181 STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, Guitar Gangsters, Bristol Studio, Monday 17 December 1990
To end 1990's gigging year, I bopped down to Bristol Studio with The Big Man to see one of the original purveyors of old school punk rock. Tried in vain to get served at the bar while the one chord wonder support band were on.
SLF came on to an epic welcome and cranked out 1 1/2 hours of nostalgia for now. Any thoughts that they might have reformed to just play the hits, cruise and collect, and enjoy the easy life, were blown away not only by their absolute rock-solid commitment, but also by new numbers such as "Beirut Moon", which still overflowed with righteous vitriol and blended perfectly with old favourites such as "Fly The Flag". A great show culminating in a frenzied "Alternative Ulster". Hopefully this lot are back to stay!
