107 THE WILD SWANS, Playing For Time, London Harlesden Mean Fiddler, Tuesday 20 September 1988
Drove up to this difficult to find North London venue, meeting up with North Of Cornwallis vocalist Lester Noel there! Had a chat, and also spoke to Wild Swans vocalist Paul Simpson briefly. The support band were championed by actress Linda Davidson (punk Mary from "Eastenders") but were crap.
The Wild Swans weren't at their best tonight, but let's face it, their worst is still better than most band's best, and they could play "Revolutionary Spirit" on toy guitars and tin drums and it'd still be utterly Godlike! The aforementioned "Spirit" closed their soaring, heroic pop set proper, another highlight also being the slow burn to crescendo of oldie "No Bleeding". Encore, a second gallop through "Young Manhood", rounded off the night before we hit the road, encountering some car trouble on the way home!
