139 JESUS JONES, Romeo Suspect, Reading University, Tuesday 10 October 1989

The 25th gig of a hectic year overall, but actually my first one, due to holidays and my Outward Bound course, for 2 1/2 months! Jesus Jones seem to be flavour of the month; the queue to get in this gig was enormous - we ended up jumping it! Wished we hadn't bothered actually, as support Romeo Suspect started well but then degenerated into disappointing HM thrash.

Jesus Jones came on to a frenzied reception from this sell-out crowd and "live" made more sense than their often cluttered debut album, excelling with a dynamic, colourful performance of decadent dance rock, with vocalist Michael outstanding and energetic. The inevitable "Info Freako" and the faster set closer "Never Enough" were my highlights. Good stuff!
