147 JAMES, Band Of Holy Joy, Cardiff University, Friday 1 December 1989

My first trip down to Cardiff University, with a carload of the usual suspects, didn't go well; a freezing evening, an impossible-to-find venue, and a bar which opens late then only sells cans, does not usually add up to a good gig, particularly when the support band play wallflower Manc rip-off music with heavy plagiarism thrown in for good measure!

However, James more than made up for it with another sparkling set of their folky whimsy Indie rock. With the current trend for all things Mancunian, it's about time their mix of unorthodox little tunes and wild rhythm gets its' due!
