100 THE RAILWAY CHILDREN, The Chesterfields, Laugh, London Kentish Town Town And Country Club, Friday 6 May 1988
Two gigs in two nights on this particular tour made it three in a row from The Railway Children, and also brought up my gig no. 100 - not out! So celebrated in a big way in the pub beforehand with Rich, Jared and their significant others, also meeting The Chesterfields for lengthy chats, congratulations to Davey on his new arrival - baby Joseph - and commiserations to Simon about Portsmouth FC!
Openers Laugh were again excellent and fun; The Chesterfields (when they hauled themselves out of the pub) played a harder edged set which surprised slightly, but their usual poppy and boppy songs, and upbeat sense of fun, won through. As for headliners The Railway Children; this was very much a showcase gig for them and they didn't disappoint with excellent renditions of "Brighter", "Chrysalis" and "A Gentle Sound". Their best performance of the 3, and a fine way to close out my first century of gigs!
