96 THE POGUES, After Tonite, Bristol Studio, Sunday 6 March 1988


Arrived in time to catch the support, who were prime purveyors of dirty black funk, and "took it to the bridge" good and proper! The Pogues themselves were a lot better than previous outings, sounding much more together and punchier, plying their Irish folk and drinking songs to an enthusiastic crowd and introducing Kirsty MacColl for a splendid "Fairytale Of New York", vocalist Shane MacGowan just shrugging and mumbling the introduction, "here's Kirsty..."
